A Day in Franklin

While my mom was in town we set aside a morning to head down to Franklin. I went down there once at the beginning of the summer for their Rodeo Parade, so I was able to see the cute and quaint downtown area. Franklin is only about a 20 to 30 minute drive from downtown Nashville, but it is a totally different scene. There are a lot of historical Civil War sites, unique boutiques, and well-rated restaurants.
Our first stop was the Nashville LDS Temple. It was beautiful, and so nice to get out of the busy Nashville downtown traffic.
After that stop, we were both super hungry. I pulled up Yelp and we headed for the top rated breakfast/brunch place on the list. The also used the Yelp wait list feature and we were able to get on the list while we were driving there- so when we got there we only waited about 10 minutes even though they were pretty busy.

It. was. amazing. I feel like I've tried quite a few of the popular Nashville restaurants, and this was the best meal I've had here. They are only open for breakfast/brunch, and everything on their menu sounded so good we could barely choose what to order. We ordered the Chicken St. Charles eggs benedict and a seasonal pancake. They were both incredible. I can't say enough about how flavorful and delicious the food was. 11/10 recommend driving down to Franklin just for this breakfast! I am already planning on going back at least once before we head back to Utah.
Next, we took in some of the Civil War history at the Lotz House. It is a small, Civil War era house in the area of the famous battle of Franklin. It was $12 for adult admission, and the tour was informative and personal. We thought that $12 was a good price point, compared to some other Nashville tours Civil War tours that can range from $30-$50. The house was caught in the middle of an extremely bloody battle, and was used as a hospital for wounded soldiers. In a few areas you can see dents from cannonballs entering the house, and blood in the floorboards. If you are looking to experience some Civil War history in Nashville for a reasonable price, this would be a great stop. The tour lasted about 45 minutes, and you could tell the tour guides really loved their jobs. We were disappointed to learn that most of the furniture in the house is not original, so that was one downside.
To finish out our time in Franklin we headed back to the downtown area to walk through the shops. A lot of the boutiques were at a higher price point, so we had fun just looking. We also stopped in a cute candy store that offered yummy samples. Downtown Franklin has a more laid back vibe, and it was nice to just stroll around.

If you are looking to escape the traffic and partying atmosphere of Nashville, Franklin is a great place to visit. If you are ever there- make sure to visit Ruby Sunshine for me! I will dream about that eggs benedict forever.
