When you think of Nashville, chances are one of the first tourist things you name would be the Grand Ole Opry. My mom and I decided to spend our Friday night attending the show at the Opry, and it was such a fun experience.
I have walked around the outside of the Opry a few times because it is right in between the Opryland Resort and the Opry Mills Mall- 2 of my favorite & frequented spots! But, until Friday night I had never gone inside. During the summer they do shows on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. They are open every day for tours as well, but we decided if we were going to spend money to get in there we might as well see a show too!
My mom and I are country music fans, but this was a bit different than we were expecting. The shows are hosted almost variety show style. There are different segments with a different host to announce each segment. Most of the artists played about 2 or 3 songs.
My favorite part about the show was hearing so many different styles of "country" music in one night. We heard gospel country, bluegrass, comedy, and acoustic singer/songwriter type music. I had never heard bluegrass music before, and it was so entertaining to watch them "pick" banjos and mandolins like that! We even saw 90 year old Jesse McReynolds play the mandolin, and it was amazing to watch. I wasn't familiar with any of the artists beforehand, but that didn't make it any less fun. We loved experiencing new music styles and being at the Opry!
If you like country or bluegrass music, or as just a fan of live music in general I would definitely recommend seeing a show at the Grand Ole Opry. It is truly such a unique experience that you can only have in Music City!
